FAQS

"Where you believe there is magick, you will find it."

This page was created to answer some of the most common questions heard from the public about Planet Voodoo products and services and about Voodoo and Voodoo dolls in general. Here, specific questions are answered with the intention of providing general information. The questions and answers are not meant to be exhaustive. Rather, they are representative of the most frequently sought information as determined by emails received and research done on popular internet searches in multiple search engines.

Voodoo Doll FAQS

Did you know that one way Voodoo dolls were made in New Orleans many years ago was with the mud from the chimney of a crawfish hole?

This is a vintage voodoo doll from Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo in New Orleans. It was purchase many years ago, and was made to enhance one's intuition. It was made in the traditional New Orleans style out of two sticks and Spanish moss, and is wrapped with fabric and fur. Its mud head was made from a crawfish hole. These dolls are extremely rare as very few people still make dolls in this fashion.

How do I properly dispose of a cursed Voodoo doll?

If you feel that you are in possession of a negative Voodoo doll, the best thing to do is to put it in a white cloth and sprinkle it generously with sea salt. You can then take it to a river or stream or deep in the woods with an offering of fruit and some coins and ask the spirits of the water or the trees to take this energy and transform it through the power of the earth. Walk away without looking back and when you arrive home light a 7-day protection candle and take a bath with cleansing herbs, including sea salt.

What does a cursed Voodoo doll look like?

This question is rather involved so I have created a page devoted to the topic. Check out What does a cursed Voodoo doll look like? for the answer to this question.

What do I do if I think someone has done work against me?

Before going to bed, cleanse a white household candle with Florida water and/or holy water. Anoint the candle with psychic or dream oil, light the candle, place a glass of water next to the candle and pray to your spirits for clarity and understanding of whatever is causing you distress. Do this for three nights in a row beginning on a Monday night. If you receive no clear answer by the end of the week, contact a root worker or tarot reader to see if he or she can determine why these issues have arisen in your life.

How do I consecrate a Voodoo doll?

This question gets it's own page as well: How to Consecrate a Voodoo doll.

What is a poppet?

A poppet is a doll made to represent a person for casting healing, fertility, or binding spells on that person. Known as "image magic", the concept is that whatever actions are performed upon the poppet will be transferred to the person. Poppets are believed to be infused with life by their makers. The doll is a "little life", symbolic of the inner person.

Is burning a Voodoo doll bad?

Well, that all depends on where you burn it. One rule of thumb is that if you ever have an object that you believe has negative energy attached to it, you should dispose of it away from you home - the farther the better. If you don't do that, you essentially plant or attach the energy to your self and/or your home.

If you have burned a Voodoo doll that you believe was sent to harm you on your personal property, you can dig up some of the ground where it was burned, and gather as much of the ashes that you can. Put everything in a white cloth and sprinkle it generously with sea salt. Take it far from your home into the woods somewhere or some other remote location and bury it along with an offering of some fruit. Bury all of it together. Ask the deity of your choice to take the energy and transform it through the power of the earth, and ask deity to remove any negative residual from your home. Walk away without looking back and when you get home, take a purification bath and light a white candle or 7 day protection candle if you can get one. You can make a purification bath by adding sea salt, Epsom salts, and a handful of juniper or cedar leaves to your bath water, and by asking your Higher Power for protection.

Is a voodoo doll like a person so you can like...hurt someone?

Interesting question. Voodoo dolls in the New Orleans Voodoo tradition are meant to be used as focusing tools in ritual and meditation. However, because of the portrayal in popular media of Voodoo dolls are something to stick pins into in order to put a hex on someone, it has unfortunately become a common practice by those who are not true followers of Voodoo to use them in this way. Some people believe that you can affect a person in any way you want following the principles of sympathetic magic. Sympathetic magic suggests that you can influence a situation or person by imitating that which you desire. So, in theory, if you "harm" a Voodoo doll that was created to represent a specific person, then you will also harm the person that the doll represents.

I think I found a Voodoo doll that is cursed. What do I do with it?

See the answer to this question for how to proceed.

Check out this page for information: Cursed Voodoo dolls.

How powerful are your voodoo dolls?

Voodoo dolls are as powerful as the person working them. All Voodoo dolls from Planet Voodoo come fully consecrated and ready for ritual work, if that is your intention. The dolls are simply vehicles through which you direct your energy and focus. Sometimes they take on a life of their own, but that depends on whether you are petitioning a particular spirit or using the doll as in sympathetic magic, where it represents a target.

How long do your spells take before I see the results?

When you see results will vary as there is no way to determine a specific time due to a variety of potentially influencing factors. For example, it depends on how well you follow instructions, whether or not you are lazy or willing to act as co-creator, and how much you believe in your own personal power and the power of the Loas. You must be open and act in congruence with the goals you wish to attain, however.

Are you available for consultation?
