Alligator Teeth
Sizes
range from 3/4 to 1-1/4" long genuine, natural gator
teeth. Measured over the curve of the tooth from
tip of tooth to top.
Gators
are controlled by government issued permits in
Louisiana. The hides are sold for leather products,
the meat is eaten locally or prepared as jerky, the
guts go into the cat and dog food industry ("animal
byproducts") and the heads and feet (freeze dried
and coated in polyurethane) and teeth are sold to
commercial stores so 100% of the animal is recycled.
Gators have three sets of teeth, one inside the
other (like Tupperware) that's why they're hollow;
teeth are shed periodically.

To learn how to collect dirt daubers nests and how to use
them in conjure, check out the premiere issue of
Hoodoo &
Conjure Quarterly. |
Dirt Dauber Nest
(Subject to Availability)
The black and yellow mud dauber's nest is made of a series of cylindrical
cells that are plastered over with dirt to form a smooth nest. After building a
cell, the female wasp captures several spiders. The captured prey are stung and
paralyzed before being placed in the nest, and then a single egg is deposited on
the prey within each cell. The wasp then seals the cell with mud. After
finishing a series of cells, she leaves and does not return. Eventually, the
hatching larva will eat the prey and emerge from the nest.
The dirt from a mud dauber's nest is a traditional hoodoo and conjure
ingredient for various types of works, such as better business, drive away
enemies, break up spells, controlling, and fidelity. Your package will contain
pieces of dirt dauber tubes, mud dauber dirt, dried insect larvae and parts, and
dried spiders that were placed in the nest by the wasps themselves to feed their
larvae.

Dried Jellyfish (Subject to Availability)
Dried jellyfish is vulnerable to time. If it is
not dried on the appropriate time, the jellyfish will then spoil. A drying
process must take place in a matter of hours. The drying process helps prevent
jellyfish from decaying. A decayed jellyfish is extremely hazardous. The drying
process is aided by salting the jellyfish. After a couple of minutes, the salt
is washed off and the jellyfish is soaked in water and then dried off. Now that
the jellyfish is dry, it is cut into several pieces. The pieces are put into
boiling water just for a couple of minutes and immediately taken out to be
placed into cold water. This allows the salt to be removed and gives it that
crunchy flavor. Jellyfish don't have any taste on their own, it is only after it
is added to other foods it takes on a taste.
The health benefits of dried jellyfish can be extremely beneficial. Dried
jellyfish contain calcium binding proteins. There are two major benefits that
can come from an increase in natural genetic calcium binding proteins. The first
benefit is that it improves memory. Secondly, it is an age-fighting protein.
Therefore today many researchers are currently studying and experimenting in
order to perhaps find a solution to age related malfunctions, such as a slow
cognitive function, memory loss and slow alertness responses.

What
is New Orleans Voodoo
Hoodoo?
The term voodoo
hoodoo is commonly used by Louisiana locals to describe
our unique brand of New Orleans Creole Voodoo. It refers to
a blending of religious and magickal elements. There is the
tendency for many people to separate Voodoo the religion
from hoodoo the magick. However, this separation did not
occur in New Orleans as it did in other areas of the
country. The so-called magick is part of the religion; the
charms are medicine and spiritual tools that hold the
inherent healing mechanisms of the traditional religion and
culture. Voodoo in New Orleans is a way of life for those
who believe. A fellow New Orleans native and contemporary
gris gris man Dr. John explains it this way:
In New
Orleans, in religion, as in food or race or music, you can’t
separate nothing from nothing. Everything mingles each into
the other – Catholic saint worship with gris gris spirits,
evangelical tent meetings with spiritual church ceremonies –
until nothing is purely itself but becomes part of one fonky
gumbo. That is why it is important to understand that in New
Orleans the idea of voodoo – or as we call it gris gris – is
less a distinct religion than a way of life. (Rebennack &
Rummel, 1994, p. 159).
