The word
poppet is a doll used in folk-magic. In
folk-magic and witchcraft, a poppet is a doll made
to represent a person, for casting spells on that
person. These dolls may be fashioned from such
materials as a carved root, grain or corn shafts, a
fruit, paper, wax, a potato, clay, branches, or
cloth stuffed with herbs. The intention is that
whatever actions are performed upon the effigy will
be transferred to the subject as in sympathetic
magic. If the spell is a curse, the poppet is worked
in any number of ways, including piercing it with
pins, nails or shards, binding it with cord,
covering it with hot candle wax, or hanging it by
the neck.
Poppets are often
used for healing purposes, promoting health, finding
love, creating happiness and good luck, for
protection, for binding, cursing, and for
manipulating energy in numerous other ways. Our
trademarked poppet designs are inspired by the
various Spirits of the crossroads and are unique
designs available only at Crossroads Mojo. |
