Ant Hill Gravel and Dirt
Voodoo Mama's Ant Hill Gravel and Dirt draws on
principles of sympathetic magick in its application. The gravel and dirt are
gathered from harvester ant nests in the Arizona deserts. Harvester ant
workers are usually between ¼ and ½ inch in length and colors range from orange,
to red, brown, or black. They can sting and will aggressively defend the nest if
threatened.
Use in defensive works to make an enemy move
(give them "ants in their pants"), in break up works to make a person "get the
itch" and look elsewhere, in banishing works to make someone disappear or to
make them irritated and fight and "bite each other" (Harvester ants bite
ferociously), use to make a lazy person more industrious, and add to similar
works for a powerful boost in effectiveness.

Read all about How to Sell
your Soul at the Crossroads by Doktor Snake in Volume 2 of
Hoodoo and Conjure
Quarterly. |
Crossroads Dirt
Voodoo Mama's Crossroads Dirt draws on the gifts
of the Spirits of the crossroads for power, decision-making and opportunity. This dirt is hand
collected from the high desert in Arizona, from a special crossroads that lies
across and down the hill from where I live. This crossroads "appeared" one
evening when a serious battle was being waged and the crossroads spirits came to
my assistance. I made my offerings in thanks to Legba and Exu and claimed
it.
Use crossroads dirt with protection and
enemy works for a powerful boost in effectiveness. As long as the crossroads is
here, I can collect dirt from it. However, as it just appeared one day, it may
well disappear as well one day so I have no idea how long I will be able to
collect the dirt.

Pyrite Nuggets (Fool's Gold)
Named in
antiquity from the Greek "pyros" for "fire" because sparks flew from it when hit
with another mineral or metal. The resemblance of pyrite to gold has made it a
traditional symbol for money and good luck, and so pyrite is used in all kinds of money spells,
gambling spells, good luck spells, and spells drawing fortune.

Read all about red brick dust and how
it can be used in Volume 2 of
Hoodoo & Conjure
Quarterly. |
Red Brick Dust
In traditional New Orleans Voodoo, red brick dust is on of the most powerful
and popular minerals to employ to protect the home. After scrubbing the front
porch with Chinese Wash or a mixture of urine
and Essence of Van Van, red brick dust would
then be spread across the threshold to keep bad energy and enemies from
entering. Spread some of Voodoo Mama's Red Brick Dust across all thresholds of your home,
including windowsills and doorways to keep evil away and to form a protective
barrier.
Voodoo Mama's Red Brick dust is ground by hand
from old bricks gathered from a local ghost town in the Southwest. This ghost
town is notorious for its paranormal activity and mystical energy. A classic
wild west boomtown, it's history embraced bootleggers, opium dens, copper
mining, prostitution and gambling and attracted people from all over the world
in droves seeking riches and a freer life. After the bricks are collected, they
are smudged with sage to insure they do not retain any negative
attachments. After they are smudged, they reside on my altar with offerings to
receive the blessings and protection from the spirits.
The latest bricks were gathered form an old jail
house, perfect for protection. Note that the bricks gathered are only those that
are worn into the ground and have long been disconnected from the building
itself...I do not take anything from the buildings themselves.

What
is New Orleans Voodoo
Hoodoo?
The term voodoo
hoodoo is commonly used by Louisiana locals to describe
our unique brand of New Orleans Creole Voodoo. It refers to
a blending of religious and magickal elements. There is the
tendency for many people to separate Voodoo the religion
from hoodoo the magick. However, this separation did not
occur in New Orleans as it did in other areas of the
country. The so-called magick is part of the religion; the
charms are medicine and spiritual tools that hold the
inherent healing mechanisms of the traditional religion and
culture. Voodoo in New Orleans is a way of life for those
who believe. A fellow New Orleans native and contemporary
gris gris man Dr. John explains it this way:
In New
Orleans, in religion, as in food or race or music, you can’t
separate nothing from nothing. Everything mingles each into
the other – Catholic saint worship with gris gris spirits,
evangelical tent meetings with spiritual church ceremonies –
until nothing is purely itself but becomes part of one fonky
gumbo. That is why it is important to understand that in New
Orleans the idea of voodoo – or as we call it gris gris – is
less a distinct religion than a way of life. (Rebennack &
Rummel, 1994, p. 159).
